Michelle Barrett Purcell CVT
After more than 7 years in the field of veterinary nursing, Michelle Barrett Purcell CVT remains professional and passionate about the calling to help animals. Prior to obtaining her degree in veterinary technology, Ms. Purcell was employed as a kennel assistant at a humane society; as a veterinary receptionist and assistant in a small animal practice and often volunteered her time at local non profit animal charities such as Florida Wildlife Hospital and Sanctuary; the Brevard Zoo and the Central Brevard Humane Society. Michelle is currently employed as the “Team Leader”/ ICU nurse at the Anima Specialty and Emergency Hospital in progressive Viera, Florida. What makes Michelle unique is that she has remained proactive in her profession and true to her work. She is a member of her state (FVTA) and national (NAVTA) associations. She is enthusiastic about nursing and is eager for “take home points” when attending continuing education sessions at state and national conferences. Students from the local Vet Tech program learn under her guidance during preceptor ships and she has been called upon to lecture on topics such as the "The CVT in Emergency Medicine” and - "Animal CSI: Veterinary Forensics & the Psyche Behind Animal Cruelty". Animal Welfare is a very personal focus for Ms. Purcell. She keeps abreast of animal control services, legislative issues and is especially astute to animals in her care that may be suspect victims. For her efforts, Michelle exemplifies the Veterinary Technicians oath to “practice my profession conscientiously” and serves as a role model to remain enthusiastic and tenacious in improving animal care in and out of the practice.
