About us

The Florida Veterinary Technician Association (FVTA), established in 1975, is a non-profit association representing more than 800 veterinarian technicians working in private practice, corporate America, government, industry, academia, and zoos. Structured to work for its members, the FVTA acts as a collective voice for its membership and for the career that they have chosen.

The profession of veterinary technology, as we know it today, has been in existence for approximately 30 years.  During this time, great strides have been made in the recognition and acceptance of certified veterinary technicians as an important member of the veterinary health care team.  Today’s veterinarians and veterinary technicians must maintain an extremely high standard of animal care. Due to the expanding veterinary profession, formal academic training programs have been on the rise for veterinary technicians since the 1960s. As a result there are over 100 vet tech programs in the United States now accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association.

We welcome you to our website to learn more about the field of veterinary technology/veterinary nursing, as well as join your peers in the veterinary health care field to collaborate on further professional development of certified veterinary technicians in the state of Florida.
